Registering A Domain Name
Just like buying anything else, you visit the web site of a domain name registrar. Enter in the name of the domain you want to register and see if it is available. If the name is not available, you can try using the same name but with different extensions since they all work the same way. Many people are starting to discover that the name they want is available with the ,us extension and living in the US they like that one. Once you find a name, you go through the checkout process to create an account and buy the domain name. Once you have the domain name you can set up the hosting, or if you just want to use it for email you should be able to set up email forwarding. With this you can send the email from your domain to your ISP or free email account. If you ever change your main email account in the future you can just change your email forward to point to the new mail account.
